What’s the most important part of your job?

Listening. Specifically, listening to our clients so that I can help best deliver strategies that meet their business needs.

What does it mean to be part of an agency that puts “People First”?

It means staying at the same company for 15+ years. The people of RPA and the clients I've had the privilege of working with are the main reasons I've stayed as long as I have.

What’s the biggest change you see coming up ahead for advertising and marketing?

A lot has been made of Big Data, which I believe has transformed and will continue to transform the business. I believe we will enter a period where the concept of Human Data will become even more important. This requires treating the end customer with respect and supplying them personalized experiences that provide them with utility or entertainment that they couldn't get otherwise.

An agency CEO travels back in time from the Year 2050 and walks into the lobby. What’s your first question for her?

Is it true that TV and the :30 spot are dead, or is that supposed to happen in 2051?

What have you learned from the team you lead?

It's cliché, but everyone is different. You have to tailor the way you manage to the unique personalities, strengths and weaknesses of each individual. You can't be stubborn and assume that your way of doing things is the only way. In other words, don't be like Chip Kelly.

What qualities do you look for in an RPA Associate, beyond the usual?

Not sure if this counts as "the usual," but is this someone I would want to have a beer with after work?

Talk about a client who’s had an important impact on you.

A client who had an important impact on me was one early in my career who frankly was unhappy with a couple of projects I presented to him. The work itself was likely fine. But it was clear that I was not listening to him and his vision for the business. Working with him taught me to be a better listener and ultimately we developed a great working relationship.

What’s on the horizon for you? What do you most look forward to accomplishing?

I really look forward to continuing to stay 3, 6, 9 or 12 months ahead of the industry. I pride myself on staying on top of industry news, but also bringing thought leadership to the agency. With the industry changing so quickly, it seems to be a more difficult task every day, but I'm up for the challenge.
